Thanks for visiting Barra Island Tours

The Isle of Barra is a 23 square mile island located 80 miles from the mainland reached either by a very relaxing ferry crossing or by air from Glasgow giving you the chance to experience a fabulous flight and then landing on the islands beach runway. The island is full of history, scenic beauty, flora and fauna and has a population with a very relaxed life style that could only exist in the Western Isles of Scotland. Barra Island Tours gives you the chance to see the islands of Barra and Vatersay, and hear about local history from Rob or Paul Daly who have many years experience of visiting and living on Barra.

Let Rob or Paul (if Rob is off island)take you to see Barra’s unique tiny airport, where the plane lands on Traigh Mhor (Big Beach). Barra airport is the only one in the world to have scheduled flights landing on a beach, so even if you have flown in it's a sight well worth seeing. See the abandoned village at Balnabodach, and take in the beautiful scenery and wild life that makes Barra what it is. Tours will also take you to the wreck of a WW2 Catalina, to see Queen Victoria’s profile in rock, to the Annie Jane monument which marks the burial site of those lost in a shipwreck and to see unspoilt white beaches, sparkling blue seas, ancient duns, cairns, gravestones and standing stones.

Collection from and return to anywhere on the island is included. Standard tours for groups of up to four people last between three and four hours (depending on time spent at each stop, although if the weather is good and there are lots of photo ops maybe longer!) start at 10 a.m. and cost £30 per hour. Please note these costs are per hour and NOT per person per hour.! Subject to availability and demand for Standard Tours "Whistlestop" tours of Barra for around £60/£70 (about 90 minutes -2 hours) and Barra and Vatersay for around £80/90 (about 2 hours 30 minutes -3 hours) may be possible. Day trippers please note that there is a minimum charge of £60. If you are flying in you might consider a two part tour starting and finishing at the airport thus doing away with (relatively) expensive taxis from and to the airport. Come rain or shine you will enjoy the tour from the comfort of a top of the range 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
